Santa Claus has long captured the imaginations of children and adults alike. While I was growing up, my mother began to collect Santa figurines, and each year she would receive new ones as Christmas gifts. She would always remark about the details involved in each piece.
A few years ago I was inspired by a book I found in which the artists featured had created their own versions of Saint Nicholas in various mediums. I had recently begun experimenting with Paperclay (TM) and decided to try my hand at sculpting. My first foray into really sculpting was The Zoo Keeper? in 2009.
After that one, I began to imagine what it would be like for Saint Nicholas, Kris Kringle, Santa Claus, and all of his aliases during the other 11 months of the year. Many of the figures you see on this site are my representations of Santa Claus (in real life.) I like to recycle materials and to use old purses to create shoes, belts, and leashes for the statues. Old sweaters, Christmas ornaments, Alpaca wool and other objects have also been repurposed in my projects.
Since 2009, a few of the Santas have even won awards.
